Today’s nails were not planned at all (very unlike me usual Type A personality). When I paint my nails, I usually have an exact idea of what I’m going to do before I even sit down. Today’s original idea (Louis Vuitton nail art) did not pan out as planned. And by not panning out, I realised that my small brush skills are not as great as I would like and after a miserable attempt at one nail, I abandoned my Louis Vuitton designer nails for today. Without wanting to completely waste a perfectly good base color (I had all my nails painted a gorgeous fall brown – Zoya “Louise” from Zoya’s fall 2013 Cashmeres and Satins collection), I started thinking outside the box.
What colors go well with brown? Pink, pink, pink! I love brown and pink together. I find they complement each other incredibly nicely. For my pink polish, I chose a bright fuchsia from Sephora by OPI “What Aura Gonna Wear?”
I grabbed my dotting tool and painted some pink polka dots on my middle finger. Having no idea what I was going to do next, I started thinking about pink hearts, and that evolved into a pink heart on my ring finger that I hand painted using a small nail art brush. Then, since I completely messed up my index finger with my failed attempt at Louis Vuitton nail art, I re-painted the base with my pink and decided to go with a kisses XO theme to complement the heart. Before I knew it, I had lips on my pinky and more polka dots on my thumb and low and behold – Valentine’s Day Nail Art in January.
I have a few more ideas for Valentine’s Day nail art, but I think this is a fun design that could be worn for the occasion, or any other day you just want to feel the love (apparently today, I do)!
Before I forget, a number of you have asked about Part 2 of the photography and lighting tutorial (if you missed Part 1, check here). This will be up either tomorrow, or Friday latest.
Until next time,
