Scented nail polish. What will they think of next? Nail polish does smell disgusting…in fact, even in the dead of winter I have to open my window a bit while I do my nails, otherwise, the fumes of the polish really get to me (not to mention everyone else in my house, including my dog!).
When Revlon came out with a new line of scented nail polish – “Revlon Parfumerie”, I knew I had to test it out. How could they actually make nail polish not smell like nailpolish?
FIRST MISTAKE: I opened the bottle, excited to smell ‘fresh linen’ (the first polish I swatched) and eek! “This is disgusting”, I said to myself. This smells worse then regular polish! So I might have jumped the gun a little…oops. Apparently the polish smells good, after you’ve applied it and it’s actually dried on your nails. Did it work? Well see below at my individual reviews.
Fresh Linen
- Coats: 3 for full opacity
- Application: smooth
- Color: pearly off-white with a satin finish
- Topcoat: none used here
- Fragrance: gorgeous fresh linen, literally (after it’s dried!)
- To Buy or Not to Buy: if you need a pearly white in your collection, otherwise there isn’t anything particularly special here
Powder Puff
- Coats: 3 for full opacity – 2 coats looks really pretty if you like a sheer look. I think it would look great as a top coat or jelly sandwhich
- Color: light baby pink with tiny micro holo glitter
- Topcoat: none used here
- Application: a little bumpy as there are tiny glitters in the polish, but overall smooth
- Fragrance: smells flowery and sweet
- To Buy or Not to Buy: really pretty soft pink glittery, nothing dramatically different
Wintermint
- Coats: 2 for full opacity
- Color: gorgeous satin mint green with a sheen and tiny blue square glitter
- Topcoat: none used here but would smooth the look
- Application: despite it being a glitter polish, application was extremely smooth
- Fragrance: definitely smells like MINT!!!!
- To Buy or Not to Buy: This was one of my favourites and definitely different from anything I’ve seen before.
Beachy
- Coats: 2 for full opacity
- Color: Gorgeous bronzy/gold
- Topcoat: none used here
- Application: smooth with a satin finish (apply two think coats, otherwise becomes streaky)
- Fragrance: sweet
- To Buy or Not to Buy: If you don’t have a nice bronzy/gold in your collection, then I would recommend this color.
Ginger Melon
- Coats: 2 for full opacity
- Color: Beautiful Coral Pink
- Topcoat: none used here and shine is remarkable
- Application: extremely smooth with a cream finish
- Fragrance: DELICIOUS! Exactly like melon – love this!
- To Buy or Not to Buy: A must!
Bordeaux
- Coats: 2 for full opacity
- Color: Rich red bordeaux
- Topcoat: none used here and shine is remarkable
- Application: extremely smooth with a creme finish
- Fragrance: literally smells like red wine – I’m not kidding!
- To Buy or Not to Buy: Similar color to many out there, but if you don’t have a nice bordeaux for the winter, then the price and quality is perfect for this polish.
Surf Spray
- Coats: 3 for rich and full opacity (2 looks good too)
- Color: Stunning shimmery, metallic blue
- Topcoat: none used here
- Application: smooth (streaky if you apply too thick)
- Fragrance: smells flowery
- To Buy or Not to Buy: A DEFINITE MUST. My favorite of the entire collection. Like nothing I’ve seen. I had to add a silver sparkle gradient, because the color was screaming to be paired with glitter.
What’s the Verdict?
- Definitely don’t smell the polish until it’s dried on your nails!
- A few really great colors (but you don’t have to run out to buy the entire collection)
- Price is reasonable at around $4-6 at local drugstores
- Fragrant nail polishes? Honestly, I think it’s all a selling feature because when are you going to sit around and smell your nails BUT if you do like that sort of thing, Ginger Melon has my favourite smell from the 7 polishes I tried.
Have you tried any Revlon Parfumerie polishes? I would love to hear in the comments below.

I Amy need to pick up a couple more! I have Pumpkin Spice Wintermint Lime Basil Chocolate Truffle China Flower and Ginger Melon so far. The only one I don’t care for is China Flower and that is just because I don’t care for reds on myself for some reason. The scent on that one is not my fave either. Love all the others I have. Lime basil had become a go to green for me. It smells sorta like 7-up to me. 🙂 (The Polished Butterfly)
OOH I don’t have a green. Really? Ok maybe I need to try lime basil. Thanks for the comment!
I just swatched the Lavender Soap from this collection.. Just like you I jumped to smelling it and hating it. It smells awful !! I love Revlon products but this collection is just pretty bottles .. Waste of my $6 🙁
That’s so funny!!!!
That’s so funny that we both smelt it before it dried! I agree, it is a little steep for something not quite as special as I thought but I do love the pretty bottles.
Did you even read the whole post? It says the scent comes out AFTER the nailpolish is completely dry.
Did you even know if I hated it after it dried or before ?? Seriously woman , you need to get a life…
