HOT OFF THE PRESS: OPI to release new collection: OPI Color Paints
Idea: Translucent colors to layer and blend for endless nail art looks (you mean like sheer tints? No, totally different, scroll down to see the comparison).
What they Are: OPI Color Paints are a new line of nail polishes that let you play to create your own masterpieces. Launching May 2015, OPI Color Paints allows you to layer and mix colors to create one-of-a-kind looks. Featuring the semi-translucent, buildable polishes, OPI Color Paints invites you to let your imagination wild! The unique silver base illuminates each subsequent layer with striking vivid colour. Stripe, swoosh or swirl layers of eye-cathing color to create your own signature accent. With nine new shades, OPI Color Paints blendable nail polishes makes each nail a paintable mini canvas of creativity!
Check out these gorgeous new hues!
The bottles look very similar regular OPI polishes and, unlike the sheer tints, they don’t look translucent in the bottle. The bottles have removable sleeve and the caps are white, unlike the regular black caps of OPI nail polishes.
Here you can see what one coat of OPI Colour Paints look like. They’re extremely bright and apply just like a regular sheer cream polish (from left to right: Silver Canvas, Pen & Pink, Magenta Muse, Primarily Yellow, Landscape Artist, Turquoise Aesthetic, Indigo Motif, Purple Perspective and Chromatic Orange)
By adding another coat (two coats shown here) you can see the polishes are perfectly opaque and still quite bright. (from left to right: Pen & Pink, Magenta Muse, Chromatic Orange, Primarily Yellow, Landscape Artist, Turquoise Aesthetic, Purple Perspective and Indigo Motif)
What happens when you apply one coat over Silver Canvas (the silver base coat?).
Wowza! Incredible! One coat of OPI Color Paint completely changed to a metallic polish. (from left to right: Pen & Pink, Magenta Muse, Chromatic Orange, Primarily Yellow, Landscape Artist, Turquoise Aesthetic, Purple Perspective and Indigo Motif)
But how do these polishes compare to Sheer Tints?
I did a quick comparison of three of the four OPI Sheer Tints and the formula, application and finish is completely different. OPI Sheer Tints are formulated like a top coat (they’re quite sticky and thick). Conversely OPI Color Paints apply just like a regular polish.
Do you need all colour? This is to be determined as I haven’t played around with layering the colours and trying out different nail art techniques.
A clean-slate silver to illuminate your masterpiece.
Paint some sunshine with this glowing yellow.
This freshly squeezed orange is awash with color.
Pen & Pink
I’m irresistibly drawn to this rosy pink.
This sultry red-violet is truly inspiring.
The depth of this purple is mesmerizing.
I have designs on this deep, midnight blue.
Beauty is in the eye of this deep aqua.
The lush, verdant green of wide-open vistas.
All swatches are shown as is with no top coat.
So what are your first impressions?
Until next time,
