With the New Year upon us, after a holiday of over indulgence and sleeping in, getting back into the swing of things can be tough – why don’t I have an extra hour in the morning?Mornings can feel rushed and hectic at the best of times. Simplifying your morning makeup routine can help things go smoother, ultimately making you feel less rushed all day long. You don’t have to go to work barefaced to save time in the morning – in fact, a few simple tips can have you out the door quickly leaving enough time to spare to pop into your favourite coffee shop and splurge on your favourite chai or coffee.
1. Always Scrub and Cleanse
Use a gentle face scrub brush or scrubbing pad with your favorite gel or cream cleanser to get two jobs done at once. Exfoliating is an easy step to skip when you’re in a hurry, but your skin will eventually reveal your oversight with pimples and dullness. Gently exfoliating every day removes those dead skin cells from the surface of your skin so that the fresher, newer skin is exposed. It also boosts blood flow, which can leave you glowing and looking wide awake.
2. Treat and Cover at the Same Time
Many women use multiple products in the morning, including moisturizer, anti-aging skin treatments and sunscreen followed by concealer and foundation. All these layers can make your skin feel heavy, clogged and greasy, but they can also take a while to apply. Instead of applying layer after layer of individual products, use a multi-purpose BB cream or CC cream. BB, or beauty balm creams are designed to target specific skincare issues, which can help you dramatically streamline your morning routine. CC creams, or color correcting creams, can counteract red or sallow tones and usually contain additional skin treatments included. Both BB and CC creams can act as primers, moisturizers, anti-aging treatments, sunscreens and foundations. Younger women or those with minimal skin concerns can opt for a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen included. Once you find the right product for your skin type and color, simply swipe, blend and go.
3. Use One Product for your Lips AND Cheeks
Multi-use makeup sticks allow you to toss the blush and lipstick in favor of one easy-to-use all-in-one product. Makeup sticks can be directly applied to your cheeks and lips and come in a rainbow of flattering shades, including mauve, rose, gold and peach. They glide onto your skin smoothly and can be used to contour or create a natural-looking glow.
4. Eyeshadow Sticks Can Save the Day
The eyes are often said to be the window to the soul, so while this is one place that you definitely don’t want to skimp when it comes to makeup, there are plenty of ways to speed up your daily routine. Eyeshadow sticks make it super easy to shadow, line and contour your eyes with one simple product, eliminating the need to rifle through your makeup bag or bathroom drawers for the right shadow or liner. If time is really an issue, you might even consider semi-permanent makeup. Many salons now offer brow and lash tint services that can darken and accentuate your brows and lashes and eliminate the need for brow pencils and mascara for weeks or months at a time.
Switching a few of your products and habits can make a big difference when it comes to your morning makeup routine. You will not only have more time in your schedule but may even free up some space in your cosmetic bag.
Good luck getting back into your regular routine this January!
Until next time,
