With the cold weather here on the East coast, I long for sunshine. What I wouldn’t do to live in Australia right now. Today I’m going to live vicariously through Maria – the incredibly talented Australian nail artist – from SoNailicious.com. Currently it’s summer in Australia (yes I’m crying a little), I thought it appropriate to feature one of my favourite and most talented nail artists – Maria.
I first noticed Maria’s work a number of months ago when I was just starting out. Her photography and styling are right up my street and I envied everything she did with her photos. Being the sister of a decor magazine editor, and having been behind the scenes of a number of photography shoots, I know how much work and skill goes into styling and setting up an image (not to mention the photography skills). Not only did I love how Maria put everything together – her nail art just happened to be perfection as well. She is definitely someone who inspires me constantly to learn more about photography, step outside of my comfort zone with my pictures and have fun with polish.
Without further ado – Maria!
I’m Maria from SoNailicious.com. We’re currently based in Sydney, Australia but I originally come from Europe. Traveling, nail polish and shoes are my passions (apart from family of course, but that’s a given). When I was travelling around the world last year, I dedicated time to discovering local nail polish brands. One stand out discovery was Platinum from Russia. That’s the one I’m showing you today.
I was amazed by quality, range of colours and variety of finishes of Russian polishes. That’s one of the reasons I decided to launch the SoNailiciousBoutique – to make some of the most beautiful international nail polish brands available to everyone. Having this online boutique is still pretty new for me and I’m very excited about it. Can you tell? 🙂
Back to the lovely Platinum nail polish – it has a satin finish (somewhere in between matte and glossy) with matte black glitter making it look similar to the famous Illamasqua Speckles. However, Platinum is a third of the price! The formula is great and it’s 3-free. The only one disadvantage in my opinion is the packaging, the bottle isn’t as spectacular as say Illamasqua’s. Maybe that’s how Platinum’s manufacturers kept the price so low?!
For the nail art, I went for a spiky pattern with a pink base topped with contrasting black details and studs. I first came up with design while doing Halloween nails. I like playing with contrasts and combining unusual textures in one nail look. This combination of girly pink, fierce studs and straight lines is a great example of my nail art style. To re-create the look, just follow this nail art tutorial.
Used: Orly Nailtrition (base coat), Pink Matte Platinum 173 (matte pink), ORLY Vinyl (black), studs.
Hope you enjoyed this spikey nail design, and thanks for reading!
Maria – this manicure is to die for! I absolutely love it and I love how you combined the different elements of the design. Thanks so much for bringing some of your Australian sunshine over to the serious negative degree weather we’re experiencing here!
