In case you didn’t get the memo, the 1990s thin eyebrow era is long gone.
Today we’re trying everything in our beauty regime to make our over-tweezed brows grow back, but unfortunately getting those sought after celebrity brows with natural hair, is easier said than done!
Lucky for us, the makeup industry has heard our cries of regret (for tweezing almost every last hair we have) and has answered us with some pretty innovative tools to help fill in our brows!
One of the leaders in eyebrow maintenance is Benefit Cosmetics. So much so that Benefit has Brow Bars throughout North America and Europe, a place for just you and your brows. What happens at a Benefit Brow Bar?
I’ve been using Brow Zings (brow maintenance kit) and High Brow (brow lifting pencil) for over ten years (because my poor brows suffer immensely from the over tweezed syndrome). Newer to the Benefit scene is Gimme Brow, a tinted volumizing fiber gel that helps add colour to your existing hair.
Brow Zings: CAD $43/USD $32
Gimme Brow: CAD $30/USD $24
High Brow: CAD $29/USD $22
While Benefit may be one of the leaders in brow maintenance, other cosmetics companies are following suit and have developed some fantastic products ranging in price.
Shu Uemura Brow:Ink comes in five shades. This product is interesting as it’s 24-hour long lasting liquid formula naturally shadows the brow hair (no need for brow tattoos – gross). Brow:Sword comes in 5 shades and is a soft pre-shaped brow pencil that is extremely precise and defined. With a pre-set sharpener and a convenient brush tip, blending is a cinch.
brow:ink: CAD $30/USD $23
brow:sword: CAD $42/USD $35
Bobbi Brown has also been an innovator in long-wear brow products. Just this past spring, Bobbi Brown introduced its Long-Wear Collection which included Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brown Pencils . The Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow pencil is a special combo of waxes and emollients that provides a unique creamy texture that melts seamlessly into the skin. The product’s wax base helps with 16-hour wear that’s sweat and water proof (thank god!). I’m absolutely in love with these pencils! Usually I come home at the end of the day and my brow product has completely vanished, but not with this product – tested in Toronto’s hot 35 degree Celsius weather!
Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil: CAD $49/USD $42
Who doesn’t love Estee Lauder? As part of the Fall Collection (available October 2015), Estee Lauder has launched the “Brow Now Collection” featuring a brow defining pencil, a double brow brush, an automatic brow pencil duo (not pictured) a stay-in-place brow gel (not pictured) and a volumizing brow tint (not pictured). The brow defining pencil works to both tint and set the brows and offers 12-hour wear. Another product that is water, humidity and sweat resistant. Available in 5 shades (blonde, light brunette, brunette, dark brunette and black)
Brow Defining Pencil: CAD $28
Double Brow Brush: CAD $28
MAC Cosmetics‘ fluidline brow gelcreme is a long-wearing waterproof gel in a pot that gives precise definition to brows. Available in 5 shades, when applied with an angled brush this gelcreme applies smoothly and sets really quickly.
Fluidline Brow Gelcreme: CAD $19.50/USD $16.50
Maybelline New York
If you’re on a budget, then you’ll be happy to know that a number of drug store Beauty Brands have also come to the table. My favourite new products are the Maybelline Brow Define + Fill Duo Brow Liners. The dual-ended pencils contain a defining wax pencil on one end and a filling powder tip on the other, making it easy-to-use for even the brow novice. The .2mm defining wax pencil cleanly creates the desired shape and will help set the powder. Available in 4 shades below.
The best part? These pencils are only $9.96 CAD/$ 6.94 USD!
Toss the Tweezers!
Well maybe keep them for those stragglers, but DON’T OVER TWEEZE! Embrace the new era of eyebrows and if your brows aren’t growing, invest in some of these products to help you along the way. There’s no excuse for thin brows anymore.
Until next time,
