Today was the first snowfall in Toronto. I woke up early, looked outside and the leaves and trees were lined with a gorgeous carpet of white fluffy snow.

For the last few weeks I’ve seen christmas, US thanksgiving and Hanukkah nails around the nail art community and I have to say, I just haven’t been able to face the thought of winter or any of these holidays (let alone celebrating them on my nails…I want fluorescents and flowers dammit!). Finally however, after a refreshing and beautiful walk with my dog by the river this morning, the snow falling around me inspired me to embrace the winter and start thinking of nail art ideas.

I know the traditional snowflake nail art is usually blue, but I am anything but traditional when it comes to doing my nails, so I chose to use my two favourite Picture Polish pinks to create and ombre effect for my snowflakes.

So what if winter is usually white and blue and christmas is usually red and green. I think it’s important to go out of your comfort zone, use colors that inspire you. If you like the traditional style christmas and winter nail art, then embrace that, but if you’re sick of seeing the same things and want to try something new, why not think abstract and stray from the norm?
