Comic book nails (Boom, Pow, Bang, Zap nails) have been hot in the nail art community for a while now. My favourite design was created by Naomi Misu at Tips Nail Bar in Toronto for the lovely Karen Kwan who blogs about Beauty and Swellness. Check out Naomi’s work on these nails!
There are lots of variations to comic book nails that I’ve seen, so I wanted to try some out myself. I did a little variance on the theme, incorporating Betty Boop which I’ve also seen around the nail art community.
Remember Betty Boop? She is a Disney icon that rose to fame in the late 1930s and has since become a multi-million-dollar brand, licensed in virtually every product category by quality manufacturers (Click Here for more info on Betty Boop).
Betty Boom Nails
So, I call these my Betty Boom nails (incorporating betty boop and boom). It’s grey and cold in Toronto right now, so I wanted to to use bright colors and turned to some fluorescents from Urban Outfitters.
- Urban Outfitters “Hottub”
- Urban Outfitters “Ringo”
- Urban Outfitters “Pixie”
- Essie “Blanc”
- Dotting tool
- 24 Dance nail brush
- Acrylic paints for Betty
- HK Girl Topcoat by Glisten and Glow
I absolutely LOVED how they turned out. So much so that I actually motivated myself to go for a run (thanks Karen for the nail inspiration forcing me to run). Karen’s nails were done for one of her many marathons that she runs. I didn’t run a marathon but hey 7km isn’t bad, right? Of course I had to match my running shoes to my nails (hee hee) – don’t worry the rest of my outfit was all black.
